Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, however if you are referred by your GP under a Mental Health Care Plan you will be able to receive a rebate from Medicare. This means you will only have to pay the gap of $52.00.

Fee per session is $140, Medicare Rebate is $88 – Gap being $52. 

What types of issues of concern can a GP refer me for, that are covered by Medicare?

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Co-occuring depression and anxiety
  • Panic Disorder
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Eating Disorders
  • Bereavement Disorder
  • Adjustment Disorder

How many sessions can I get under my Mental Health Care Plan?

Your GP will initially provide you with a Mental Health Care Plan for 6 visits and after 6 visits, or 6 months have elapsed, that plan will be reviewed by your GP and you may be eligible for an additional 4 visits (Up to 10 sessions in a calendar year).

What if I cannot afford the $52.00 gap?

You may wish to access another service. Your GP will be able to advise you of any free services available. Alternatively, you might like to space sessions out to fortnightly or monthly to budget for your gap fee.
